Courtyard Newcastle University

At the Courtyard Café, we were asked to refresh a unique circular site at the heart of Newcastle University. The layout presented opportunities, and the design was developed to feel practical while also creating a warmer, more welcoming atmosphere for students.

Bespoke joinery was introduced throughout, shaped to follow the natural curves of the building. This not only improved functionality but also gave the café a more fluid and connected feel. Directional signage was added to guide movement through the space.

The curved geometry was carried through into the vinyl flooring, where a change in colour reinforces the shape of the plan. Combined with the joinery and finishes, the result is a café that feels more inviting and better suited to daily student life.
